The First Ten Amendments Of The US Constitution
1. Freedom of religion, press, speech, assembly and petition. - being able to express your opinions. Ex. You not being able to say what you think of our president.
2. Right to bear arms. - able to own a gun. Ex. The government passing a law so no one could own a gun.
3. No quartering of troops. - you can tell Soldiers they are not allowed to stay in your house. Ex. If a soldier tells you he wants to stay in your home, you can deny him
4. Search and seizure. - authorities are not allowed to search a person's property without a warrant. Ex. If authorities tell you they want to search your house because they think your a bad person, you can tell them no.
5. Protection of the accused, must be offered bail, eminent domain and no double jeopardy. - protects against abuse of government authority in a legal procedure. Ex. You can not be tried for the same crime if not guilty, cannot be a witness for yourself, property cannot be taken unless given compensation.
6. Fair and speedy trial, jury of peers, right to an attorney and to cross examine witnesses. - fast trial time, jury cannot have people who are biased.
7. Trial By Jury. - Only have a jury of your peers in certain civil cases Ex. Cannot be tried for a crime without a jury present
8. No cruel or unusual punishment or excessive bail. - no inhuman ways of being punished. Ex. cannot be tortured as a punishment
9. Unenumerated rights. - addresses rights of the people that are not in the Constitution. Ex. Right to privacy
10. Reserved powers for the States. - powers not granted to the federal government by the Constitution or the states, are reserved to the States or the people. Ex. The authorities cannot put cameras in your home
